Essaouira Tightens COVID-19 Restrictions as Cases Rise

The local authorities of Essaouira announced, on Friday, the strengthening of preventive measures aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19.
The provincial monitoring committee responsible for managing the Covid-19 pandemic has made a number of recommendations that have prompted the authorities to take new measures to curb the spread of the pandemic in the province. Thus, Adil El Maliki, the governor of the province, issued a decree informing everyone of the new measures that came into effect from Friday, November 13 at 6:00 p.m. for a period of 15 days renewable as needed.
Henceforth, business premises or those dedicated to professional and service activities in the neighborhoods recording a surge in Covid-19 infection cases in the city of Essaouira must close at 8 p.m. The weekly souk in Sekkala and the neighborhood markets will close at 4 p.m. As for cafes, restaurants and snack bars in the neighborhoods concerned, they must close at 8 p.m. The ban on broadcasting football matches in cafes remains in effect.
Gatherings and crowds in the various public spaces are also prohibited within the neighborhoods concerned. The decree emphasizes the respect of preventive measures such as the wearing of protective masks, physical distancing, under penalty of the sanctions provided for by law. These new measures do not exempt residents from continuing to apply the other measures in force at the national level, specifies the same source.
