Moroccan Activist Warns: Israel Ties Pose ’Existential Threat’ to North African Nations

Ahmed Wihmane, president of the Moroccan Observatory against Normalization, warns that normalization with Israel is a "serious and existential threat both for Morocco and Algeria".
"We are facing a serious and existential threat both for Morocco and Algeria, even for the entire Maghreb region," he said in an interview with APS. To support his argument, he recalled the allegations of Bernard-Henri Lévy during a conference in Marseille. The latter claimed that "Algeria (...) is Jewish and French". In the eyes of the Moroccan activist, it is clear "that we are witnessing the preparation of a transfer of the State of Israel to Morocco, hence the unprecedented Zionist breakthrough in the Maghreb and mainly in the kingdom".
Expressing the essence of his thinking, Mr. Wihmane relies on the Israeli press, in particular the newspaper Yediot Aharonot, which deals with a former Zionist plan dating back to 1903 and aimed at establishing the "State of Israel" in the Kingdom of Morocco. The death of the founder of the Zionist movement Theodor Herzl did not put an end to this plan. This plan is still relevant "due to the lack of prospects in Palestine after the experience of seventy years of resistance," explained the Moroccan activist.
Focusing on the claims of Moroccan Jews regarding the recovery of "their property in Morocco," he argues that their objective "is to take control of Morocco and the entire region through these claims and the myths of the tombs of Jewish prophets and patron saints". He illustrates his remarks by citing the title displayed on the front page of one of the Moroccan French-language magazines: "Morocco, Jewish land".
Mr. Wihmane also returns to the legal action taken by Moroccan lawyers to challenge the normalization decision. "We have done our duty on the legal level as we do on others. We place our hope in God and the great Moroccan people," he said. Regarding "the violation of rights, the restriction of freedoms and the security blockade" observed in the aftermath of the Morocco-Israel rapprochement, the president of the Moroccan Observatory against Normalization stated that these "are only the first fruits of normalization".
"The confrontation between the people and the state is one of the main strategic objectives of the bomb thrown by the Zionist entity and the American administration in Morocco to blow up the entire region," he said. According to his explanations, "when the state represses the people, tension is fueled and the state weakened, which will facilitate the transition to the phase of weakening and division then to total domination for the implementation of plan "B", namely the establishment of a "new Israel".
