Microcredit Agency Head Faces Sexual Harassment and Assault Charges in Morocco
The head of a microcredit agency has just been referred to the courts for his alleged involvement in a case of sexual harassment and blackmail in Echemmaia, in the Marrakech-Safi region.
According to the daily Assabah, the arrested and referred man used his position to harass women, demanding sexual favors from them before granting them microloans. But as if harassing the women who come to file their applications was not enough for him, he is said to have sexually abused a colleague who went to the gendarmerie to file a complaint for rape.
He is said to have taken advantage of a moment when they were alone in the agency to sexually assault the latter. Before the gendarmes, the victim confided that the suspect had the same behavior with several clients of the agency, taking advantage of their precarious financial situations. This is what the accused admitted after being confronted with irrefutable evidence.
