Meknes Police Inspector Under Investigation for Off-Duty Violence and Unauthorized Weapon Use

A police inspector is the subject of an investigation by the Meknes police prefecture, on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, for acts of violence against a taxi driver and another person. He is also accused of having illegally used his service weapon.
The police officer works for the regional security of Salé. According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the agent had a dispute with a taxi driver, near a nightclub, outside of working hours. He assaulted the victim and damaged his car. The accused also assaulted a third person who tried to help them resolve their dispute.
The investigations revealed that the police officer illegally used his service weapon. He accidentally fired a bullet before being disarmed.
Pending the results of the preliminary investigation, the defendant was taken into custody.
