Casablanca Police Officer Fires Weapon to Arrest Violent Theft Suspect

A police officer serving in the Lissasfa district, in the Hay Hassani area of Casablanca, was forced to use his service weapon to apprehend an individual on Monday, March 23. The latter would have links with a criminal network operating in violent theft.
The police received a complaint from two people, including a woman, who were victims of a theft, under threat, of the mobile phone of one and the handbag of the other, during their exceptional authorized movements during this period of the state of health emergency, indicates the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release.
Following this complaint, a large-scale search operation and thorough investigations were carried out; which made it possible to apprehend one of the suspects, the subject of two national search warrants issued by the Berrechid police services for theft cases, the DGSN said.
During this security intervention, a police officer was forced to use his service weapon by firing a warning shot after the suspects threatened the police patrols with a bladed weapon. The intervention was successful: one of the accused was arrested on the spot while the other two, identified, fled. The search continues to apprehend them.
Pending the elucidation of the ins and outs of this case and the determination of all the criminal acts attributed to him, the arrested defendant was placed in custody.
