Massive Spain-Morocco Border Operation 'Marhaba 2022' Set to Launch June 15

The Spanish-Moroccan joint commission set up as part of the Marhaba 2022 operation met on Thursday in Rabat, to finalize the preparations for the event, the start of which is scheduled for June 15.

This meeting was chaired by the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Isabel Goicoechea, and the Director of Migration and Border Surveillance of Morocco, Khalid Zerouali, indicates a press release from the Spanish Embassy in Rabat, specifying that the main discussions focused on the Special Civil Protection Plan for the Marhaba 2022 operation.

This plan will be developed in the coming weeks, and in which all the necessary aspects for the development of the system will be gathered, the same source points out. The discussions also concerned the fluidity and security of transit, assistance to travelers and the prevention and protection of public health.

In this sense, Spain has recalled that for this edition, a security device composed of 15,995 National Police and Civil Guard agents will be deployed, in order to ensure perfect organization.

For the Spanish official, "the Marhaba 2022 operation is an example of good coordination between neighboring countries". "It is the largest European device and one of the largest in the world," she explained, with the sea transport of more than three million people and more than seven hundred thousand vehicles over a period of three months.
