Port of Almeria Prepares for Surge in Moroccan Travelers as Marhaba Operation Resumes

The president of the Port Authority of Almería (APA), Jesús Caicedo, held a meeting with the Moroccan vice-consuls in Almería, Mohamed Es-Sette and Nadia Sanbi, to prepare the Marhaba Operation which will take place this summer, after two years of cancellation due to the health crisis.

Jesús Caicedo fears a significant influx of Moroccans living abroad during the 2022 Marhaba Operation, which will take place from June 15 to September 15. In 2019, the year of the last edition of the Transit Operation which represents nearly 60% of the port of Almeria’s annual passenger traffic, some 580,000 people to and from Nador, Melilla and Algeria transited through this port, recalls Ideal.

The president of the Port Authority of Almeria presented the Moroccan vice-consuls with the special plan and the system prepared for this year’s Marhaba Operation. The system "aims to guarantee the shortest and most comfortable stay possible for passengers." As for the special plan, it takes into account the fleet plan, the coordination plans, the security and traffic plans, as well as the health measures related to Covid-19.

The services and facilities are ready for the 2022 Marhaba Operation, Caicedo assured, recalling that most of them were rehabilitated in 2021, in anticipation of last year’s edition. Maintenance work has already been carried out in the areas where travelers stay and pass through, and tents will be installed in the pre-boarding area in the coming days, he announced.
