Massive Drug Bust in Morocco: 7 Tons Seized, 3 Arrested in Casablanca

Three individuals were arrested yesterday, Monday, in Casablanca, with 7.228 tons of drugs destined for international trafficking.
It all started with the surveillance of a truck bearing false license plates by the judicial police elements, during its passage through several Moroccan cities, heading for the port of Jorf Lasfar.
Realizing they were being followed, the driver of the vehicle and his companions got rid of some drug bales by throwing them on the side of the highway. They also threw stones at the police elements on their arrival at the Tit Mellil toll booth, before fleeing via the Casablanca highway ring road, abandoning the truck behind them, which contained 220 bales weighing 7.228 tons of cannabis resin.
In addition, the sweeping operations carried out in coordination with the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie and the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), led to the arrest of two people in a utility vehicle, after the discovery on board of a drug bale. It had been thrown by members of the criminal network.
According to the same source, a third person was arrested on board a light vehicle transporting large quantities of stones. He deliberately tried to escape by taking the prohibited lane of the highway. For the needs of the investigation, the three suspects were placed in custody.
