Moroccan Police Seize 1.7 Tons of Cannabis in Casablanca Drug Bust

An attempt to traffic drugs was thwarted by the judicial police in Casablanca last Friday. They managed to seize more than 1.7 tons of cannabis resin (chira), hidden in a goods transport truck. The intelligence of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) contributed to the success of this operation.
In a statement, the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) reports that the elements of the prefectural judicial police service in Casablanca thwarted an attempt to traffic drugs in the city. More than 1.7 tons of drugs were seized based on intelligence from the DGSN. The goods truck in which the drugs were hidden was intercepted near the Tit Mellil toll booth and its inspection led to the seizure of one ton and 766 kg of drugs and the arrest of the driver and his escort, the statement said.
The truck driver from northern Morocco and his escort were taken into custody for the needs of the investigation, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. An investigation has been opened in order to dismantle this network and incapacitate these drug traffickers.
The statement stresses that this hard-hitting operation by DGSN services, carried out in collaboration with other police services and the Royal Gendarmerie, is part of the fight against drug trafficking and its derivatives, undertaken in the kingdom.
