Massive Crackdown in Fez: Over 12,000 Arrested, Drugs and Weapons Seized

Operations were carried out jointly by the services of the Fez police prefecture and the elements of the judicial police brigade. These resulted in the arrest of 12,304 individuals from September 18 to 30, 2020.

The security operations carried out not only led to the arrest of 12,304 individuals, including 8,211 in flagrante delicto and 4,093 subject to search warrants, but also the seizure of a set of equipment and tools used to threaten the safety of persons and property. These include 397 units of bladed weapons, 303 kilograms of cannabis and its derivatives, 9 grams of cocaine, 56,361 bottles of alcohol, 210 boxes of psychotropic drugs, 130 mobile phones, 22 vehicles and 43 motorcycles used or resulting from criminal acts, the DGSN said in a statement on Thursday.

These security operations, carried out on the basis of a proactive study and an analysis of the crime mapping of Fez, Sefrou and Missour, also led to the arrest of individuals in flagrante delicto or wanted for various crimes and criminal acts. Criminal acts and crimes that threaten the safety of citizens such as violent thefts, physical and sexual assaults, offenses, drug-related cases and others.

These operations were marked by the participation of various units of the judicial police, public security and general intelligence under the prefecture of police of Fez, supported by the research and intervention brigade under the supervision of the national judicial police brigade. The operations were also carried out gradually in several cities of the Kingdom. They are part of the efforts deployed by the DGSN services to fight against the various criminal acts and to pursue the wanted persons in order to strengthen the feeling of security among the citizens.
