Massive Crackdown: Over 8,200 Arrests in Casablanca Security Sweep

8,225 people were arrested during the security operations carried out in the various districts of the Casablanca Police Prefecture from October 10 to 21. 6,094 were caught in the act and 2,131 were the subject of national arrest warrants for their involvement in various crimes and offenses.
This number of 8,225 arrests in less than two weeks reflects the extent of delinquency. These operations were carried out gradually in several cities of the Kingdom such as Kenitra, Meknes, Fez, Agadir and Casablanca.
They are part of the efforts made by the services of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) to fight against various criminal acts, it is indicated.
In a press release, the DGSN stated that the arrested persons were wanted for criminal acts causing a feeling of insecurity among citizens.
The police report that these are violent thefts and knife attacks, physical and sexual assaults, financial and economic offenses, issuance of bounced checks, Internet fraud, scams, as well as drug and psychotropic cases.
In addition to the arrests, the security forces also seized 305 bladed weapons, 200 kg of hashish and derivatives, 192 kg of cocaine, 8,615 psychotropic tablets, 5,075 bottles of smuggled alcohol, 210 anesthetic substances, 201 mobile phones and 56 stolen vehicles or used to commit criminal acts.
