Marseille’s Ounahi Struggles: Coach Benches Moroccan Star Amid Training Concerns
Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi has lost the confidence of the Olympique de Marseille coach who has not fielded him for the Phoceans’ last matches. The latter blames him for a lack of commitment during training sessions, while former Marseille defender Adil Rami believes that the former Angevin would be of great use to the club. The 23-year-old player is considering leaving the club.
Coach Marcelino has benched Azzedine Ounahi for four of the Olympique de Marseille’s last five matches (three draws, 2 wins) in five Ligue 1 games. As a result, he has only been fielded for three games since the start of the season and has not returned to the pitches since the return match against Panathinaikos. After the 0-0 draw against Toulouse on Sunday, the coach of the Phoceans explained the situation of the Moroccan midfielder who joined the OM squad last winter from Angers for around ten million euros.
"I have no problem with him, but I have to make choices, choose players, he admits. I always put on the field the players who will be competitive, those who train the best. Ounahi is a player in the squad. We will use Ounahi, we have already used him, he has been good. But I have to choose players. What he has to do is continue to make efforts in training every day to convince us and show that he can be an additional player to use in the match." He therefore blames him for a lack of commitment during training sessions.
However, former Marseille defender Adil Rami believes that the former Angevin could help OM succeed in the transition between midfield and attack, which would allow the club
