Morocco Calls Up Injured Marseille Midfielder Ounahi for International Duty

The central midfielder of Olympique de Marseille Azzedine Ounahi is on the list of 25 players called up for the international matches in November that Morocco is preparing to play, even though he has been out of the Marseille group for a few days due to back pain.
Surprising call-up! Since October 26, Azzedine Ounahi has not returned to the pitch. That evening, OM was playing their first leg match against AEK (3-1), and he had remained on the bench. Five days earlier, the Moroccan international had given a rather unconvincing performance. He is suffering from back pain. He had broken a toe at the end of the 2022-2023 season. For the past two weeks, he has not participated in collective training sessions. Despite this, the coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui, has called him up in an expanded group in preparation for the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
Does this call-up for the former Angevin mean that the 23-year-old player will go to have his injury checked by the medical staff of the Atlas Lions? This is what is commonly done in such circumstances, according to La Provence. If he fully recovers from his injuries, Ounahi will not only be able to defend the colors of Morocco, but he will also have the chance to be fielded for OM’s matches. The star of the 2022 Qatar World Cup will especially have to convince Gennaro Gattuso that he deserves his place in the Marseille squad.
