Marrakech Teen Critically Injured in Stray Dog Attack, Sparking Safety Concerns

Stray dogs have seriously injured a teenager, much to the distress of the residents of Marrakech, in the Iziki district market. The scene experienced by the inhabitants of the ochre city on December 23 is terrifying.
This scene of rare cruelty calls the authorities’ attention to the management of stray dogs and the dangers they pose to the tranquility of the people of Marrakech. According to the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the teenager was saved thanks to the intervention of the population. Covered in blood and in critical condition, he was taken by ambulance to the emergency room of the Mohammed VI University Hospital. While the crowd was still trying to digest its indignation and anger, the dogs dispersed not far from the scene of the attack.
Some human rights associations and civil society actors have alerted the local authorities to the dangerous repercussions of such attacks, which have become frequent in rural and urban areas. Stray dogs are multiplying and this is undermining the safety of the inhabitants. According to the newspaper, before this attack at the Iziki Souk, two children had been bitten by two stray dogs in the Al Azouzia neighborhood.
