Salé Launches Veterinary Clinic to Combat Stray Dog Surge

Faced with the proliferation of packs of dogs invading the city of Salé and threatening the health of the inhabitants, the mayor of the city has announced the creation of a veterinary clinic.
Overwhelmed by the increase in the number of stray dogs in the city, the residents of Salé have just launched a campaign on social networks to denounce this situation that threatens their well-being. The accumulation of garbage observed after the confinement would be at the origin of the multiplication of these stray dogs that we find around the garbage cans everywhere in the streets, the roundabouts and the public squares, reports L’Opinion.

"Stray dogs roam in groups sometimes of several tens of individuals, we can no longer go out early in the morning without being afraid for our lives," laments an Internet user on the group: "The inhabitants of Sala - El Jadida". Other residents say they are exasperated by the continuous barking of the packs of dogs at night, which disrupt their sleep. "Every evening, it’s the same nightmare, we can no longer sleep properly and it affects our health and our productivity at work," complains a resident of the city.
The situation constitutes a real danger to the health of the inhabitants of the city, the dog being the main vector of transmission of the rabies virus. Every year, several people are bitten by stray dogs, some of whom end up dying of rabies, a fatal disease that Morocco is struggling to eradicate.

The city authorities assure that everything is being done to limit the damage. A daily stray dog collection work is being carried out, says the mayor of Salé, Omar Sentissi. According to him, the proliferation of dogs is explained by the fact that now "we no longer have the right either to poison them or to shoot them in public". And to add: "To find a concrete solution to this problem, at the level of the wilaya, we have launched the project to build a veterinary clinic that will welcome, vaccinate and sterilize stray dogs". It will be completed within six months.
