Stray Dog Attacks Escalate in Moroccan City of Salé, Residents Demand Action

Residents of Salé continue to suffer attacks from stray dogs. Women jogging in a park in the city were recently attacked by these animals, which had already bitten several residents. The municipal council is accused of doing nothing to end this situation.
Attacked by a pack of dogs while jogging in a public garden in Salé, these women were saved by a parking attendant who managed to fend off these aggressive dogs, reports the daily Al Akhbar. Attacks by stray dogs have become a recurring phenomenon in Salé. Several residents of the city have been bitten or frightened by these stray dogs that are sowing terror in the city.
Recently, a woman filed a complaint with the court of first instance and the prefecture, after being surrounded by a horde of stray dogs in front of her home. A few weeks ago, a rabid dog bit three people, including a woman, who were taken to the emergency room. Overwhelmed by the situation, the population has asked the health protection service of the municipality to take its responsibilities and put an end to the proliferation of stray dogs, a phenomenon that threatens their peace and safety.
Faced with the alleged inaction of the Salé municipal council, a deputy has sent a written question to the Minister of the Interior, denouncing the attitude of the municipal services which are doing nothing to put an end to the phenomenon of stray dogs in Salé. "The Rabat city council has awarded a public contract worth 10 million dirhams to an association" which "will oversee the El Arjat clinic in charge of sterilizing stray dogs in Rabat, Salé and Témara before returning them to the wild," announced Omar El Hayani, municipal councilor of the Federation of the Left (FDG).
