Marrakech Taxi Driver Jailed for Overcharging British YouTuber in Viral Scam

The court in Marrakech has sentenced the taxi driver accused of scamming a famous British YouTuber to six months in prison, with a fine of 500 dirhams.
The case dates back to December 2022. While the British tourist’s ride should have cost him 70 dirhams, the taxi driver in Marrakech demanded 350 dirhams. Fully aware of being scammed, the tourist paid the amount, but posted the story on his YouTube channel.
This video from the famous YouTuber, named "Simon Wilson", which went viral, sparked outrage from Internet users and even a reaction from the authorities in Marrakech. On December 28, 2022, the driver concerned was identified and detained, then his license was revoked. The case was referred to the Marrakech court.
This week the verdict was handed down. The disciplinary chamber of the court of first instance in Marrakech sentenced the defendant to six months in prison and a fine of 500 dirhams for "fraud and extortion".
