Marrakech resists: why the city remains in the top 10 for the French despite the Asian offensive

The travel intentions of the French for the year 2026 show a predominant orientation towards long-haul destinations, according to a study by the comparator Liligo based on searches made between September and December 2025. International flights now represent eight of the ten most searched destinations, indicating a desire to escape to more distant geographical areas, particularly in Asia and the overseas territories.

The city of Bangkok tops this ranking, confirming the appeal of Thailand, which also places Phuket in fifth place. The overseas departments occupy a significant part of the podium with Pointe-à-Pitre and Fort-de-France, respectively in second and third place, ahead of Saint-Denis de la Réunion. This trend towards the open sea is accompanied by stronger anticipation of bookings, unlike European destinations which are subject to later decisions.

Marrakech ranks sixth in searches for 2026. The ochre city, which held the top spot in travel intentions in 2025, has experienced a relative decline but remains, along with Dubai and Bangkok, one of the few destinations to maintain a lasting presence in the top 10. The ranking is completed by Tokyo, Dubai, Marseille - the only representative of metropolitan France - and New York.
