French retirees: Morocco loses a place but remains the Eldorado of the French

Faced with inflation and tax pressure, French retirees are looking for a refuge for their purchasing power. The 2025 ranking of Retraite sans Frontières confirms the appeal of Morocco, which remains in the top 10 despite a slight decline, closely followed by European destinations.

The Kingdom is now ranked sixth among the preferred countries for retirement. While it has lost one place compared to the previous year, Morocco remains a safe bet for a simple reason: the cost of living.

According to the study reported by Capital, this financial criterion now accounts for 20% of the final score, ahead of climate or security. For seniors with strained pensions, preserving their remaining income has become the absolute priority, surpassing the fear of distance.

Beyond the wallet, Morocco plays on its historical assets to compensate for this slight decline. The ubiquitous French language facilitates administrative procedures and integration, a luxury that Thailand (4th) or Greece (3rd) do not offer.

Access to healthcare also reassures those considering the move. The private infrastructure in Marrakech, Casablanca or Rabat are regularly cited as examples, combined with a geographical proximity that allows reaching France in just a few hours.

The podium, however, remains locked by the European trio of Portugal-Spain-Greece, which appeals through its stability. But for those seeking a change of scenery without sacrificing their budget, Morocco remains the preferred gateway to Africa.
