Marrakech Launches Street Food Festival, Aiming to Serve 5,000 in Iconic Square

On November 9th in the ochre city, Jemaa El Fna square will host a unique event. The "Marrakech Street Food", a new festival dedicated to "street food", aims to make a place for itself among the national festivals. Indeed, according to the wish of the organizers, during the very first edition of this event which is intended to be a platform for the promotion of Moroccan gastronomy, 20 chefs will prepare a lunch to be served to more than 5,000 people.

The brand new gastronomic event in Morocco wants to be in the spotlight by standing out from the crowd. And for good reason! Events that promote Moroccan culinary art, known for its unfathomable richness, abound. And so, to stand out from the crowd and hope for very quickly a great reputation, the "Marrakech Street Food" intends to satisfy the tastes of the majority.

To achieve this, the Arts and Cultures Foundation, the organizing body of the event, is offering for this 1st edition of the "Marrakech Street Food" a full day of tasting between ancestral recipes and new food trends. Here in particular, traditional and revisited Moroccan gastronomy, which can already rejoice in having its own festival, will offer a wide range of specialties drawn from the kingdom’s incomparable culinary heritage.

According to Hafsa Benmchich, president of the Foundation, "the star of the ’Marrakech Street Food’ is undoubtedly the cook, representing a vector of gustatory identity". Moreover, she adds, "beyond taste, a socio-economic aspect is the primary basis of street food. A substantial income can be generated in an hour’s work per day".

Already, we are announcing a ballet of street vendors, storytellers and snake charmers, installations, equipped carts, all between arrangements and makeshift items, in order to offer the public a unique landscape where food will dictate its law. Between organic and natural local products, festival-goers will be able to satisfy their choices and curiosity.

Already ranked among the 23 cities where street food is the best, the ochre city will surely be a big hit during this festival.
