Marrakech Airport Sees 30% Surge in Summer Travelers, Ranks 2nd in Morocco

Marrakech-Menara International Airport experienced a 30.58% increase in traffic in July 2019, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).
This 30.58% increase in traffic at this airport exceeds the rate recorded last year. According to ONDA data, Marrakech-Menara Airport welcomed a total of 490,630 passengers last month, compared to 375,740 travelers in July 2018.
This new performance recorded has allowed this airport infrastructure to obtain 25.86% of the overall commercial air traffic in July last. Thus, it ranks 2nd behind Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca (40.89%).
In terms of aircraft movements in July, Marrakech-Menara Airport’s share is estimated at 17.65% of the 20,015 aircraft movements recorded nationally. With this rate, it is just behind Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca (45.69%).
The Marrakech-Paris Orly line occupied the third place on the podium of the top 5 air routes, with 45,189 passengers on the top five national air routes in July last. It is followed by the Marrakech-Madrid line, which ranked 5th with 37,636 travelers, the same source notes.
As for the country’s airports, they recorded a commercial traffic volume of 2,394,773 passengers in July last, compared to 2,096,225 in 2018. Better, 225,000 passengers were welcomed in July 2018, a strong increase of 14.24%, compared to the same period in 2017.
