Manchester United’s Amrabat Embraces New Challenge After Barcelona Interest Fades

While he has always shown a particular interest in Barça, Sofyan Amrabat ended up joining Manchester United this summer, on loan with a purchase option. The Moroccan midfielder does not seem to regret his choice.
Courted by several European clubs after the World Cup in Qatar where he revealed himself with the Moroccan team, Sofyan Amrabat had only eyes for Barça. The Moroccan midfielder was determined to join the Blaugrana, but in the end, no agreement was reached with Fiorentina during the winter transfer window in January. The 27-year-old player’s desire to join the Barcelona club was so great that he was willing to give up his salary at Barcelona for a loan, recalls Sport.es.
With Sergio Busquets’ departure, Barça came back to the charge during the summer transfer window, making the Moroccan their priority. But this time, the club’s financial problems made the operation impossible. After this second failed transfer, Amrabat would have told journalist Fabrizio Romano to have "erased Barça from his mind". "I knew Manchester United had been interested for a long time. For me, it was clear that this was the only place I wanted to play. I had to be very patient," he had said.
