Ex-Liverpool Star: Manchester United’s Tactics Fail to Utilize Amrabat’s Strengths

A former Liverpool player believes that the style Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to develop really does not take into account the strengths of Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
On Sunday, Liverpool drew at home against Manchester United (0-0), thus offering the first place in the standings to Arsenal. Commenting on the first half of this match in which Sofyan Amrabat received a yellow card, Jamie Carragher observed that the style that Dutch coach Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to have really does not take into account the strengths of the Moroccan midfielder. In a statement to Sky Sports, this former Liverpool player believes that the Red Devils’ style does not suit Amrabat. "Well, it doesn’t help, Gary [Neville] keeps mentioning it when you look at the profile of the United player, especially him. Playing a man-marking system in midfield is not going to help him. He can’t run," he said.
Amrabat joined Manchester United on loan from ACF Fiorentina until June 2024 for a fee of 10 million euros with an option to buy for 21.5 million pounds. After a good start, the 27-year-old player, whose performances at the 2022 Qatar World Cup drew the admiration of several clubs, is struggling to establish himself at Old Trafford. He has been overshadowed by Kobbie Mainoo in recent weeks. The English international has again been impressive on Sunday.
