Man Dies After Self-Harm Incident During Arrest in Settat, Morocco
While the security services had arrested an individual for his alleged involvement in a case of violence against ascendants, he self-mutilated and then died in a police station. The Prefectural Police of Settat opened a judicial investigation last Tuesday.
The suspect was arrested last Monday in an advanced state of intoxication, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
According to the same source, he intentionally harmed himself in the premises of the Police Station. He is said to have reopened the sutures of an old wound, which required his evacuation to the Regional Hospital of Settat. As a result, he succumbed to his injuries due to acute hemorrhage.
The arrest of the defendant follows a complaint from his mother accusing him of physical assault, the same source specifies.
Pending the conclusions of the ongoing investigation, the deceased’s body has been transferred to the morgue for a medical autopsy.
