Major Drug Bust in Morocco: 6 Arrested in International Trafficking Ring

The judicial police of the provincial security district of Tan-Tan has carried out a major crackdown. On Friday morning, it proceeded to the arrest of six individuals for their alleged links with a criminal network active in the international trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances, and attempted voluntary manslaughter with a firearm.
Among the six arrested persons, there is an individual who was the subject of a nationwide search for kidnapping, sequestration and ransom demand. Another would be the instigator of the attempted voluntary manslaughter against a person on December 18, 2019, in the city of Laâyoune. According to the details provided by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the victim managed to escape by narrowly dodging the bullets.
When searching the vehicle transporting the suspects, the police were able to seize 55 kilograms of chira (cannabis resin) packaged in packets, two GPS devices, three bladed weapons and a magazine for the Kalashnikov machine gun found about 62 km away after a meticulous combing operation. Two chests filled with 25 bullets, a shotgun and 39 bullets, as well as a satellite phone, were also found at the same location.
A judicial investigation has been opened against the six suspects arrested in order to determine their possible links with the criminal networks of international drug trafficking in the Sahel and Sahara region. The DGSN intends to incapacitate all individuals involved in these criminal acts, as the search and combing operations are still ongoing in many regions in order to detect and seize all the tools and equipment related to this case.
