Made in Morocco: Dacia Sandero Dominates Europe’s Car Market

Dacia’s “success story” continues across the Old Continent. According to an analysis by the Romanian Economic Monitor (RoEM), the Dacia Sandero retained its position as Europe’s sales leader in 2024, with approximately 268,000 units sold. Preliminary data covering the January-November 2025 period confirm this dominance, with the model remaining firmly at the top of the rankings.

This commercial success is built on a finely tuned cross-border industrial strategy. The report highlights that while most Sandero volumes come from the group’s Moroccan plants (Tangier and Somaca), production of the Duster SUV — which remains in the European top 10 with 175,000 units — is still concentrated, by two-thirds, at the historic Mioveni site in Romania.

The Sandero’s appeal can be explained by its unbeatable pricing in an inflationary environment. Researchers from Babes-Bolyai University note that the average price of B-segment vehicles has jumped by nearly 22% in five years in Europe, making the city car’s affordability more relevant than ever compared with its direct competitor, the Renault Clio.

These sales volumes have enabled the brand to surpass the threshold of ten million vehicles sold worldwide since the launch of the first Logan in 2004.
