Jordan to Open Consulate in Laâyoune, Strengthening Ties with Morocco

King Abdallah II and King Mohammed VI exchanged, on Thursday, November 20, during a telephone conversation, about the upcoming opening of a Jordanian consulate in Laâyoune, according to a statement from the Royal Cabinet.

After Laâyoune in October last year, Jordan is also preparing to take a historic step. This decision strengthens the strong ties and testifies to the friendship between the two Sovereigns. It also materializes the tradition of continuous consultation and permanent coordination between the two Kings and in consecration of the fruitful cooperation and active solidarity relations between the two brotherly Kingdoms, the statement from the Royal Cabinet notes.

For King Mohammed VI, this "important decision is part of the positions of support that the Hashemite Kingdom continues to express on the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity."

During this conversation, the Jordanian sovereign appreciated the decisions taken by King Mohammed VI to secure the movement of people and goods in the El Guerguerat region in the Moroccan Sahara. He also congratulated Mohammed VI for the culmination of this operation and the reopening of the passage to the secure movement of people and goods from the Kingdom of Morocco to the countries of sub-Saharan Africa.

As for the upcoming opening of the consulate, the Jordanian sovereign promised that the procedures will be ensured by the coordination of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
