UAE to Open Consulate in Laayoune, Morocco Hails ’Historic Decision’

During a telephone conversation with King Mohammed VI on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyane, announced the upcoming opening of a general consulate of the United Arab Emirates in Laayoune.
In a statement, the Royal Cabinet specified that these telephone exchanges are part of the permanent coordination and consultation between the heads of the two countries and the depth of the ties of sincere brotherhood and mutual affection that unite them. They also fall within the framework of the "fruitful cooperation and effective solidarity" that bind the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the same statement, the Moroccan Sovereign welcomed this "historic decision" of Abu Dhabi, an ally of Morocco who had participated in the Glorious Green March. He also specified that the United Arab Emirates remains the first Arab country to open a General Consulate in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
For King Mohammed VI, this decision "embodies his constant position in defending the legitimate rights and just causes of Morocco, and his unwavering support for Morocco in the various regional and international forums".
