Jordan Opens Consulate in Western Sahara, Boosting Morocco’s Diplomatic Presence

Jordan now has a diplomatic representation in the Sahara. The inauguration ceremony was held on Thursday in Laayoune, in the presence of the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi.
Now, the total number of consulates in the region has reached nineteen. Eleven are located in Laayoune and eight others are in Dakhla. In Laayoune, we find Côte d’Ivoire, the Comoros, Gabon, Sao Tome and Principe, the Central African Republic, Burundi, Zambia, Eswatini, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. And in Dakhla, we find Gambia, Guinea, Djibouti, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea and Haiti.
The United States could also inaugurate a Consulate in the region. They had expressed the intention under Trump but this decision must be confirmed by Joe Biden.
