Jewish Shopkeeper Assaulted in Morocco, Police Investigate Possible Anti-Semitic Motive

The judicial police of Béni Mellal have opened an investigation following the verbal and physical assault of a citizen of Jewish faith by a butcher. Placed in custody, the suspect apparently demanded a sum he had lent to the victim.
The 69-year-old victim was assaulted at the entrance to his store, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
According to the DGSN, a 64-year-old butcher was demanding the repayment of a sum of money, the amount of which was not disclosed.
The aggressor was arrested a little later at his home, where he had hidden after injuring his victim in the back. During the arrest, the police agents found a recent medical prescription indicating that he was under treatment for mental and psychological disorders.
