Friday 20 October 2023, by Sylvanus

The Moroccan police have arrested a man suspected of having attacked with a bladed weapon two Italian tourists in the tourist city of Fez. An investigation is underway to shed light on this case.

An assault took place on Thursday in the tourist city of Fez. Two Italian tourists were slightly injured, for no apparent reason, during a knife attack, while they were walking outside the tourist circuits, reports Le360, specifying that the aggressor is a man suffering from "mental disorders". The two tourists get away with slight injuries to the arm and hand. Shortly afterwards, the assailant was quickly apprehended. It emerges from the initial investigations that he "has been receiving medical treatment for psychiatric disorders since 2013, his last hospitalization dating back to September 19," it is specified. An investigation is ongoing to shed light on this case.

A similar assault took place in December 2022 in Moulay Bousselham, a seaside resort located in the province of Kenitra near Rabat. An 82-year-old French tourist and her husband - both from Montbazin, a commune of 3,000 inhabitants in Hérault - on a stopover in Morocco had been attacked by an individual. Admitted to the Moulay Youssef hospital in Rabat, the octogenarian succumbed to a head injury. The public prosecutor’s office had opened a judicial investigation against a man showing "signs of mental imbalance". The Moroccan justice system had also ordered his admission to psychiatric care.
