Italian Teen Arrested in Morocco on Belgian Armed Robbery Warrant

An Italian national was apprehended by the police services of Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca on the evening of Monday, August 5, 2019. The 19-year-old individual is the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the Belgian judicial authorities for armed robbery.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the suspect was arrested following a checkpoint operation carried out at the border post. Wanted under an Interpol red notice, the individual had been convicted in absentia to 4 years in prison for the burglary of two homes in March 2019.
Intercepted during a flight from Canada, the suspect was placed in custody at the disposal of the justice system, pending the extradition procedure to the Belgian authorities, who initiated the arrest warrant.
The statement adds that the arrest of the Italian national is part of the bilateral relations with the Belgian authorities, in terms of security and strengthening the mechanisms for searching and apprehending individuals who are the subject of international arrest warrants.
