Israeli Defense Minister Gantz Visits Historic Moroccan Synagogue, Strengthens Israel-Morocco Ties

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz visited the Talmud Torah synagogue, the largest in Rabat, where the future rabbis of the Moroccan Jewish community were trained.

"I was welcomed by the head of the Jewish community (of Rabat), Mr. Henri Abkizer. We recited a moving prayer for the well-being of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. We also discussed the deep roots of the Jewish community in the Kingdom," Benny Gantz said on his Twitter account to announce his visit to the Talmud Torah synagogue in Rabat.

The Israeli Defense Minister hailed the strong bonds of brotherhood between Israel and Morocco, recalling that a significant number of Israelis have Moroccan origins. "Many members of the (Israeli) delegation visiting the Kingdom have Moroccan roots, and that was very exciting throughout these three days," Benny Gantz said.

On an official visit to Morocco, Benny Gantz was welcomed on Wednesday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita. He then held a session with his Moroccan counterpart, Abdellatif Loudyi, at the end of which military cooperation agreements were signed.
