Israel Appoints New Head of Diplomatic Mission in Morocco

Shai Cohen is the new head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat. He replaces Alona Fisher in this position, whose mission ended last April.
The Israeli liaison office in Rabat announced on Wednesday in a tweet the appointment of Shai Cohen as the new head of the diplomatic mission. The Israeli diplomat is part of the delegation accompanying the Israeli Minister of Economy and Industry, Nir Barkat, currently on a visit to Morocco, it is specified.
The Israeli minister met with his Moroccan counterpart, Riad Mazour. The two officials "discussed the project to create economic enterprises in Morocco and ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries." Nir Barakat was also on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the International Agriculture Forum being held in Meknes from May 2 to 7.
Alona Fisher had replaced David Govrin, targeted by an internal investigation for embezzlement and sexual harassment in September. Her mission ended last April. Morocco and Israel resumed their relations on December 10, 2020, under the aegis of the United States, as part of the Abraham Accords.
