Israeli Diplomat to Resume Post in Morocco Following Harassment Investigation

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs is considering the return to his post of David Govrin, the head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat, after the closure of the investigation targeting him for alleged sexual harassment and financial corruption.

In the coming months, David Govrin should "continue his duties at the liaison office in Morocco, after several months of suspension," announced the Israeli public radio (KAN) on Sunday, citing a source from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. David Govrin had been suspended last September after being accused of sexual harassment and financial corruption, allegations he has flatly denied.

A delegation from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs had traveled to Rabat to investigate this case that had made headlines. David Govrin was also accused of embezzlement, including a gift sent by King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel, which was never handed over to the Israeli government.

Morocco and Israel normalized their relations within the framework of the Abraham Accords, under the auspices of the United States in 2020. Since then, the two countries have strengthened their relations in the commercial, tourism, cultural, military, etc. fields and should maintain the opening of their liaison offices with a view to opening embassies.
