Israel’s Top Diplomat in Morocco Departs After Brief 4-Month Tenure

The head of Israel’s liaison office in Morocco, Shai Cohen, has just announced the end of his term, just four months after his arrival.
In a tweet posted on Saturday, July 8, he expresses his gratitude to everyone and expresses pride in the achievements made during his four months at the head of the mission.
Before joining the Israel Liaison Office in Rabat, he worked in the economic services in charge of Eastern Europe, Western Europe and North America. He then served as diplomatic advisor at the Israeli embassy in Rome and Montevideo, as well as consul general of Israel in Istanbul until 2017.
Shai Cohen had taken up his duties in May, succeeding Alona Fisher-Kamm. The latter had replaced David Govrin, targeted by an internal investigation for embezzlement and sexual harassment in September 2022. Morocco and Israel resumed their relations on December 10, 2020, under the auspices of the United States, as part of the Abraham Accords.
