International Drug Ring Busted: 14 Arrested in Morocco with Weapons, Tons of Cannabis

14 individuals, including a Mauritanian and a Senegalese, were arrested in Lâayoune. They are accused of their links with a criminal network operating in the international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances and possession of firearms.
The operation set up by the prefectural service in collaboration with the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie and the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) made it possible to seize an AK-47 and 66 bullets, according to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). In addition, a hunting rifle, 114 cartridges and 216 drug tablets weighing a total of about 5.8 tons of cannabis resin were seized.
As for the search and sweep operations, they also made it possible to seize from the suspects various caliber bladed weapons, a tear gas canister, a pair of binoculars, two satellite phones.
In addition, a geolocation device, a fake license plate and three 4x4 vehicles, and sums of money in national and international currencies suspected of coming from international drug trafficking were also seized.
Arrested, the defendants were subjected to a preliminary investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in order to elucidate the ins and outs of this criminal case and to determine the level of involvement of each of them.
