International arrest warrant: Spain captures a man wanted by Moroccan justice

The arrest took place on the street, following information transmitted by the National Central Bureau for the Localization of Fugitives. The investigators had received convincing evidence indicating the presence of the suspect in the Spanish city. The man is accused of being the organizer of an illegal emigration operation that occurred on December 3, 2020 on the beach of Ras Rmel, in the Tangier region. That day, the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces had intercepted an inflatable boat ready to set sail for Spain with 22 people on board.

A 20-year prison sentence at risk

The investigation carried out in Morocco had made it possible to identify this individual as the organizer of the aborted crossing. He is being prosecuted on serious charges, including criminal conspiracy and organization of illegal emigration, offenses punishable by a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment under Moroccan law.

Following his arrest, the fugitive was made available to the Central Investigating Court No. 3 of the National Court in Madrid. This judicial step aims to initiate the procedure for his handover to the Moroccan authorities.
