Imam Arrested in Tangier for Violent Abuse of Children in Quranic School

A fqih aged 44 was arrested on Tuesday by elements of the prefectural judicial police service in Tangier, following the publication of a video in which he is seen assaulting children in a traditional classroom.
The arrested man is the imam of a mosque located in the Bab Taza neighborhood. In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicates that the computer monitoring services detected on social networks a video showing the imam in question hitting a young child with a long stick on the soles of the feet.
This practice called "Falaqa" is a corporal punishment consisting of whipping the soles of the victim’s feet while another person prevents them from moving.
Pending the outcome of his case, the suspect was handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie services, on the instructions of the competent public prosecutor’s office, the statement concludes.
