Moroccan Parliament Demands Action on Koranic School Abuse After Viral Video

Parliament reacted to the case of the fqih of Bab Taza, imprisoned for violence against minors in a Koranic school, demanding that the government act to end corporal punishment in these establishments.
A video circulated on the networks at the beginning of the week showing the fqih of Bab Taza, aged 44, with his second, engaging in acts of violence against minors. He was arrested on May 31 by the judicial police of Tangier.
In a written question, USFP deputy Aouicha Zelfi questioned the Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs about the measures his department intends to take to prevent the recurrence of scandals like the one that occurred in Bab Taza.
For her, such punishments no longer have to exist and must be banned in establishments of original education, asking the minister to open an investigation into this type of behavior in the Koranic schools under his supervision.
To recall, according to official statistics, Morocco had until 2020 nearly 10,500 Koranic schools, mostly attached to mosques. They welcome nearly 300,000 students, of which 34.78% are girls.
