Stellantis Doubles Down: €1.2 Billion Expansion in Morocco Boosts Jobs and Local Production

This week, Stellantis inaugurated the expansion of its Kénitra plant. This 1.2 billion euro investment aims to increase the automaker’s local integration rate to 75% by 2030 and generate 3,100 direct jobs.
During the inauguration ceremony, Samir Cherfan, Stellantis’ Director of Middle East and Africa Operations, stated that the expansion of the Kénitra plant demonstrates the strength of the partnership between the Moroccan government and the Stellantis group, which began in 2016. He took the opportunity to reaffirm the group’s determination to contribute to the development of a competitive, efficient and resilient industrial ecosystem.
"The first phase, dedicated to the construction and launch of the plant, was completed on time, with the inauguration of the plant in 2019 by the Sovereign. As for the second phase, it has made it possible to double the plant’s production capacity, reaching 200,000 vehicles per year by the end of 2020, three years ahead of the initial schedule," he explained.
"This project, involving a significant investment of 1.2 billion euros, including 702 million euros in investment with suppliers, will double the production capacity with a target integration rate of 75% by 2030," said Aziz Akhannouch, the Head of Government, adding that this expansion will create 3,100 direct jobs.
For Ryad Mezzour, the Minister of Industry and Trade, "this exceptional partnership strengthens our industrial and technological sovereignty, in line with the Sovereign’s high guidelines, by further integrating local value and creating qualified employment opportunities for our youth, the true engine of the excellence of Made in Morocco automotive."
Stellantis announced an annual production of 350,000 engines in its Kénitra plant, which will start assembling a new generation of MHEV - Mild Hybrid engines in May 2025. A second phase dedicated to machining will be launched as early as November 2026. In addition, the Kénitra plant has tripled its production capacity for the Citroën Ami, Opel Rocks-e, and Fiat Topolino models, from 20,000 to 70,000 units per year since January 2025. It is also investing in the production of 100% electric three-wheelers and electric charging stations.
