Moroccan Imam Sentenced for Assaulting Children in Koranic School

The imam who hit children in a Koranic school in Bab Taza last week has finally been sentenced to three months in prison with a suspended sentence.
The verdict has finally been handed down. Prosecuted in custody, the imam of the Dekina mosque was sentenced by the court of first instance in Chefchaouen to three months in prison with a suspended sentence for assault and battery against a minor child under the age of 15, reports Assabah.
The 44-year-old religious figure appeared in a video that went viral on social media, "exposing minor children to deliberate acts of violence" in a traditional teaching room. He was arrested by the judicial police of Tangier and then handed over to justice.
The first instance judgment comes a week after his arrest and that of his deputy, the daily specifies.
