Ikea Expands in Morocco: Second Store Set to Open in Tetouan

Ikea, the leading Swedish furniture and home decor company, is preparing to open a second store in Morocco in order to get closer to thousands of households.
Ikea wants to get closer to its customers. In this regard, it plans to open a new store in July 2022 in the province of Tetouan within the commercial area developed by Tanger Med Zones, reports L’Économiste. According to SYH, the company that owns the Ikea franchise in Morocco, this project is part of the brand’s development plan over the past 5 years, which has allowed the launch, in addition to the large store in Zenata, of several Ikea "pop-ups", as well as the new store format at the Morocco Mall in Casablanca in addition to the e-commerce site. In total, 500 direct jobs and 1000 indirect jobs will be created in the region.
The financing cost of the project is estimated at 400 million dirhams. The future store will be built on an area of 16,100 m². This store will consist of a 3,700 m² showroom, a 3,450 m² "market hall", the first Ikea restaurant with a terrace that can accommodate up to 250 people, and a 500 m² outdoor exhibition space in the form of a greenhouse for the display of the outdoor furniture range throughout the year. Tanger Med is a partner in the project.
