How Morocco plans to attract 10 million French tourists
The Moroccan tourism sector is in excellent health, with a new attendance record set at the end of October. The Kingdom has crossed the threshold of 16.6 million visitors, marking a 14% increase compared to the previous year, a performance that reinforces its position as a preferred destination, particularly for French travelers.
The authorities now have a precise numerical ambition: to welcome ten million French tourists by 2030. This strategy is based on the multiplication of stays in flagship cities such as Marrakech or Agadir. To achieve this, the country relies on a dense air network. The presence of many airlines, such as Air France, Royal Air Maroc or the low-cost airlines Transavia, easyJet and Vueling, ensures a regular network that promotes continuous flows throughout the year and helps to open up certain peripheral regions, where the combination of sea and desert is increasingly attracting visitors.
A new hotel classification to harmonize the offer
The other major lever of this policy is the overhaul of the accommodation system, which came into force in January 2025. This reform establishes a unified classification for all types of accommodation, including both traditional hotels and riads or residences. The objective is to harmonize the evaluation of services in order to offer better readability to foreign visitors, who are very attentive to the consistency of comfort standards.
Sector leaders believe that this reorganization is contributing to a qualitative transformation of the national hotel industry. By clarifying the benchmarks and demanding more price transparency, this measure aims to strengthen Morocco’s reputation for hospitality and reinforce its competitiveness in the Mediterranean tourism landscape.
