EasyJet in Marrakech: the low-cost carrier's first base outside Europe opens in 2026

Morocco will host the first operational base of the easyJet airline outside Europe in Marrakech as early as 2026. This strategic decision, which is accompanied by a massive investment in airport infrastructure, comes as the Kingdom is recording unprecedented attendance with 16.6 million visitors recorded at the end of October.

This agreement, sealed with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), provides for the opening of the base in the summer of 2026. Three Airbus A320 aircraft will be stationed there, representing an investment of more than 150 million euros. This deployment will increase the seat capacity to Morocco by 17% by 2030 and create about a hundred direct jobs. The low-cost carrier, which already operates 46 routes to the Kingdom, is thus strengthening its position as a key carrier from Europe, alongside Royal Air Maroc, Ryanair and Transavia.

A 38 billion dirham airport plan

This expansion of air traffic is supported by a massive investment plan by the State. The authorities are deploying an envelope of 38 billion dirhams (3.5 billion euros) over the period 2025-2030 to modernize and expand major airports such as Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier, and build a new terminal in Casablanca. The objective is to triple the national reception capacity to meet the needs of the 2030 World Cup and the growth of tourism.

France remains the leading source market, with 5.8 million visitors in 2024 and a target of 10 million by 2030. Marrakech and Agadir remain the locomotives of this attendance, attracting a clientele seduced by the mix of culture, relaxation and "all-inclusive" offers, a rapidly growing segment driven by holiday clubs.
