Morocco: EasyJet invests more than €150 million and sets up a base in Marrakech, a global first for the company
The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and the airline EasyJet are partnering to accelerate Morocco’s rise on the global tourism scene.
A breath of fresh air for Moroccan tourism. The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and EasyJet have entered into a five-year strategic partnership to accelerate Morocco’s rise on the global tourism scene, and to sustainably strengthen the kingdom’s international connectivity by relying on one of the most influential companies in the European continent, reports Challenge.
One of the fruits of this agreement is EasyJet’s inauguration of its first operational base outside Europe at Marrakech airport. It is planned to allocate three Airbus aircraft to this base. The total cost of the investment amounts to more than 150 million euros. This is also the company’s first commitment of this kind in a new country for many years. This new base will generate nearly 100 direct jobs, as well as several thousand indirect jobs in the aviation, tourism and service sectors.
In terms of added value, each of the three Airbus represents around 30 million euros for the local economic fabric. From 2026, EasyJet’s offering to Morocco will increase by 17%. It will be accompanied by a strengthened development of stays through EasyJet Holidays. The alliance with EasyJet therefore proves to be beneficial for the currently booming Moroccan tourism.
