High-Speed Chase and Gunfire Erupt as Police Confront Drug Traffickers in Casablanca
A spectacular face-off took place on March 27 between drug traffickers and the judicial police of Casablanca. The events took place in broad daylight, on Boulevard Mohammed VI, then on the highway leading to Mohammedia.
It all starts when the police spot a suspicious van, driven by individuals with a threatening behavior. The control operation quickly turns sour. The traffickers, who are transporting a large quantity of cannabis resin from Rissana (Ksar El Kébir), violently resist the law enforcement officers.
A second vehicle, escorting the first one, flees towards Médiouna before taking the highway. A chase ensues, punctuated by gunshots fired by one of the suspects using a shotgun.
The police, retaliating in self-defense, fire warning shots then neutralize one of the assailants. The latter, hit by a bullet, succumbs on the spot. His accomplice is arrested.
The search of the two vans allows the law enforcement officers to seize several dozen packages of cannabis resin, as well as weapons and ammunition. A police officer was slightly injured during the intervention. The anti-gang brigade has opened an investigation to identify the other members of the network and dismantle the entire channel.
