Health Ministry Corruption Scandal Exposed in Morocco Over Defective Medical Equipment

The Ministry of Health is shaken by a major corruption case involving defective equipment, acquired at exorbitant prices. The fraud file was revealed following a denunciation by the Moroccan network for the defense of the right to health and the right to life.
The case was brought to light thanks to an investigation launched by the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Health, into a fraudulent organization of the acquisition of medical equipment. In this fraudulent file, several medical equipment distributors and regional officials from Tanger Tétouan Al Hoceima are implicated.
According to Al Massae, these regional officials were caught up in a case of public procurement fraud, managed a few years earlier, on a large number of second-hand medical equipment, acquired at exorbitant prices.
Faced with the failure of the equipment supposed to be brand new, which occurred a few days after its acquisition, the Moroccan network for the right to health and life accused the regional officials of being behind the overcharging.
Taking stock of the situation, the network highlighted several shortcomings at the level of public hospitals, but also at the level of the pharmaceutical market. Accordingly, it called on the Ministry of Justice to take the necessary measures to promote good governance, fight corruption and strengthen control in the kingdom’s hospitals.
