Corruption Probe Launched at Moroccan University Over Alleged Job Scheme

The Abdelmalek Essaâdi University of Tetouan is currently facing a corruption scandal affecting the professional bachelor’s and master’s programs. An investigation has been opened.

It all started with the arrest of an assistant administrator of the National School of Commerce and Management (ENCG) of Tangier, for a bounced check of 240,000 DH issued to the wife of a lawyer and another woman for a promise of employment at the university presidency, reports the daily Assabah.

The lawyer, worried by the delay in the file, filed a complaint against the assistant administrator for a bounced check. The second victim having followed suit, the accused was arrested and found himself before the competent prosecutor’s office of the city. The investigations carried out revealed the entire corruption network at the scale of the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University of Tetouan.

According to the same daily, this assistant administrator would be one of the elements of a network operating at the university level and manipulating, in particular, the grades of failed students and registrations in the professional bachelor’s and master’s programs, as well as recruitments to the university presidency, in exchange for sums of money ranging from 30,000 to 300,000 dirhams.

In this corruption case, the former secretary general of the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, the former dean of the Multidisciplinary Faculty of Tetouan, teachers and students, as well as civil servants working within the institution, are also involved. At the end of the investigation, disciplinary measures were taken against the former secretary general of the Abdelmalek Saâdi University, the former dean of the Multidisciplinary Faculty of Tetouan and the teachers involved in this case, as well as all the people who have profited from this mafia system.
