Groundbreaking Heart Surgery Performed at Fez Hospital in Morocco

A complex heart operation has just been performed by the multidisciplinary medical team of the Al Ghassani hospital in Fez.
Originally from the province of Tinghir, the patient had a heart malformation at the level of the interatrial communication. A condition caused by a malfunction of the heart and blood vessels, the Ministry of Health said in a press release.
The results of the clinical and complementary medical examinations carried out by the medical team led to a mandatory surgical intervention to close the interatrial communication. This operation also made it possible to perform the closure of a tricuspid valve annuloplasty, using the extracorporeal circulation technique.
The operation was carried out by a medical team including cardiovascular surgery specialists, doctors and nurses from the Hassan II University Hospital Center in Fez and medical and paramedical staff from the Al Ghassani Hospital. The operation lasted four hours under general anesthesia. After the surgical intervention, the medical and radiological examinations proved "its success" and the patient is "in good health", the Ministry of Health stressed.
